WHAT EGBERT THINKS...
Comments: Another ‘Pub Company’ success! Having successfully negotiated the sale and demolition of the Bowler, the Unique Pub Company is trying to do the double by selling the Jolly to property developers who intend to build retirement flats on the site! That seems a ‘Unique’ way of running pubs to me! A very sad day for Marple’s drinking fraternity.

A community group was formed to try and save the Jolly and do something more fitting with one of the oldest buildings in Marple. They distributed 2,000 leaflets to persuade people to write objecting to the plans and to support the Council at the appeal in November 2002. They also submitted an Appeal Statement, which can be viewed by clicking the link above, and took part in the appeal.

Unfortunately it was announced in the local press in early January 2003 that the appeal found in favour of the developers and the Jolly will therefore be demolished.
